Contest Alert! Contest Alert!

It's that time of year again. What time, you ask? The time when [info]lesleysays & I host our annual writing contest. We're going to be making more announcements (as soon as we figure out what we're doing and what kind of loot we're giving away), so please stay tuned!

And with that, Les Trois Graces and Tuesday Night Chatters proudly present:



2nd Annual CYD Challenge!!


Rules*:
  1. Contest is open to any writer at any stage (first-timer, agented-but-not-yet-published, or published authors; also hobbyists, etc.) to encourage the completion of a draft or writing project.
  2. Contest is open internationally.
  3. Contest officially begins September 1, 2010 and will end at 23:59 (your local time as time-stamped by your e-mail provider) September 30, 2010.
  4. Contest requires a .txt document be sent to LTGcontests [at] gmail [dot] com for word count confirmation. Once counted, the document will be deleted. This will be done twice. Once when you sign up and again on September 30th. If your starting word count is 0, just send an e-mail with that number. ;)
  5. To be included, please leave a comment on this post (let me know where you heard about our contest). Send your .txt document to the address above before September 1st.
  6. Those who sign up as novelists must write at least 25k new words, which is half of what NaNoWriMo requires in a month. Those that sign up as poets must write at least 1k new words. Please feel free to contact me, as this is open to discussion based on your project!
  7. Please check in every week. A post will be up on Wednesdays. This might show up on Thursdays for you if you're not in the USA. (We love our international friends!)
  8. If you'd like to check in (or more like, commiserate) on a daily basis, we're going to set up a thread on Verla Kay's board (aka: The Blue Boards). We'll post the link soon.


* These are totally more like "guidelines" than rules.

** Contest organizer is not responsible for lost or misdirected mail. Prizes will be sent by e-mail or ground mail, depending on item. Neither signing up, nor completing a draft will guarantee that a prize will be awarded. (But, I'll let you in on a little sekrit: we're both working hard for prize donations!)

  2. Points can be traded in for words if draft is not completed by September 30th.
  3. One point will be awarded per 1k completed.
  4. One point will be awarded for any comment left on my Saturday Shorts from today forward. Past comments will not count. Sorry [info]lesleysays. (Even if you say you didn't like it! I adore feedback of all kinds!)

Count me in. I'm always working on books and I'm sure at least one will be 25-30k from a finished first draft by September. Could use a good challenge, event to get those words done among my other obligations. Great idea and the prizes are just icing on the cake.

Hi. (It's Wendy Martin if you want to add my LJ name to the prize list) I know I said I couldn't do it because I was going to be on book tour, but I really need to finish my WIP. It's killing me not knowing how it ends!

It's a MG novel and is at 16k right now. Another 25k might be a bit long. What do you think?

The really good thing about NaNo is that you have a four-day weekend to use to your advantage. If, you know, you don't have to do the travel/family/cooking combo. ;)

I got here from Kaz's summer camp. Okay, I could use the kick-in-the-, um... I mean motivation during September, but it's unlikely that I'll finish my WIP by Sept 30th or even get 25,000 new words. My average is around 350 words a day. Good thing there's other things I can do. Thanks for setting it up so a turtle writer can play.
